Ricky Gervais, the host of the 2011 Golden Globe Awards, was in fine form Sunday night with his British humor that may have cut too close to the bone in some cases.

He introduced Bruce Willis as Ashton Kutcher‘s father. If looks could have killed — Ricky would have been down for the count.
On the subject of the Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie film The Tourist: “It seems like everything this year was 3D… except the characters in The Tourist.”
He introduced Robert Downey Jr.: “Many of you in this room probably know him best from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail…”
He introduced the head of the Hollywood Foreign Press, who put on the award event: “I had to help the HFPA president off the toilet and pop his teeth back in.”
On the movie I Love You Phillip Morris: “It was about two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay – so the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists, then.” The audience did a collective ‘Ooooooooooooo’, causing Ricky to add: “My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke.”
This last slam was a not-so-veiled shot aimed squarely at John Travolta, who Carrie Fisher recently tried to out.
Gervais is the comedic force behind The Office and also has a Golden Globe of his own on the mantle. Will he be invited back? That seems to be the question of the day…
