The heavy metal band Motley Crue has decided to hang it up AFTER they perform 72 concerts with Alice Cooper over the next two years, sponsored by Dodge Chrysler.
The rockers made the announcement Tuesday at a news conference in Hollywood, with lead singer Vince Neil describing their final musical journey as a global farewell tour. They’ll perform in the U.S., Canada, Asia, Australia, Western and Eastern Europe.
Neil told reporters, “We want to go out with the four founding members of Motley Crue and go out on top.”
Guitarist Nikki Sixx added, “We want to leave a legacy. We want to have some dignity.”
They have signed a “Cessation of Touring” contract indicating that Vince, Nikki, Tommy Lee and Mick Mars will no longer perform as Motley Crue after 2015. It prevents any member from putting together a band in the future using the name. During their 30-year history, they have sold 80 million albums.
The group appeared last night on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’ where Vince was already looking to the future. He remarked, “I’ll miss playing with the guys, but I won’t quit playing rock and roll. There are a lot of great opportunities and exciting projects after Motley Crue.”
