Melissa Etheridge announced in April that she and wife Tammy Lynn Michaels had separated. Yesterday Melissa officially filed for a Dissolution of Domestic Partnership at the L.A. County Superior Court.
Melissa and Tammy exchanged wedding vows back in September 2003 in Malibu, and were featured on InStyle Celebrity Weddings. Together they have 3-year-old twins, Miller and Johnnie Rose.
The petition filed on July 2 stated that Etheridge is seeking joint custody of the children and cited the reason behind the split as irreconcilable differences. Melissa also is asking the court not to award Tammy any kind of financial support.
When Etheridge announced their split, she said that it was a mutual decision. Tammy later publicly announced that this split was neither mutual or amicable. Sounds like it could get ugly. The couple were together for nine years, and registered through the California court system as domestic partners in August 2005.
