Lisa Ellis is the former manager of Haitian-American hip-hop star Wyclef Jean. NY Daily News broke a story that the singer’s wife, Marie Claudinette, demanded that he rid himself of the manager after coming across a naked photo of Ms Ellis on his cell. Ouch!
The irate wife reportedly forwarded the nude pic, showing Lisa facing forward with her hands crossed over her nether regions, to several other people within the music industry, presumably to embarrass Ellis. In the ensuing fallout, the manager and Wyclef reportedly parted ways three weeks ago.
Lisa Ellis’ website indicates that, in addition to Wyclef Jean, she has been instrumental in developing, planning and branding artists Prince, Maxwell, Destiny’s Child, Beyonce, The Fugees, Lauryn Hill, John Legend, Nas, and Terrence Howard to name only a few. She previously held the position as Executive Vice President, Sony Music Label Group.
When asked about the situation, Ellis said: “Photographer Mark Baptiste took a portrait of me in December 2008 for an art book. It was tastefully done. Someone leaked the photo. I don’t know who did it, but the photo had nothing to do with my resignation as Wyclef Jean’s manager.”
According to a friend, “She resigned because she just was not happy with the way Wyclef was conducting himself. He wasn’t listening to her advice. Lisa has no issue with Claudinette.”
The rapper and record producer married his fashion designer wife, Claudinette, in 1994. They have a daughter.
Wyclef Jean’s latest album “Hold On” will release this month. Drawing on his influence as an entertainer, Wyclef recently issued an appeal for international aid following the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake and was heavily involved in the “We Are The World” remix video.
