LeRoi Moore, 46, died of complications from an ATV accident that occurred on June 30, 2008. Moore was driving a four wheel all terrain vehicle on his farm in Charlottesville, Virginia when he crashed, breaking ribs and puncturing a lung. He spent a few days in the hospital and was released.

In mid July Moore suffered complications, attributed to the accident, and was hospitalized again. He died on August 19, 2008, a few weeks shy of his 47th birthday.

The talented musician played bass, baritone, alto and soprano sax, flute, bass clarinet and wood penny whistle for the Dave Matthews Band. The bands website posted the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008 at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.”
