Former New York Mets center fielder Lenny Dykstra has been sentenced to three years behind bars in the California prison system.

The sentencing stems from his grand theft auto case. Last week Lenny asked the judge if he could change his plea from “no contest” to “not guilty” and the judge denied his request.

In October the baseball star opted for a “no contest” plea deal for three counts of felony grand theft auto and one count of submitting false statements to a financial institution. In exchange, twenty-one other counts were dismissed.

Lenny was arrested for leasing luxury cars from a dealership in L.A. with fraudulent paperwork.

Due to overcrowding he will begin serving his time in the L.A. County Jail where overcrowding is likely to get him sprung early. He’ll also receive one-year’s credit for time already served.

Under the circumstances it appears Dykstra will be a short-timer. It has been our observation, case in point Lindsay Lohan, that jail gigs in California are a felons dream come true.
