So much for an elaborate wedding! Singer Kelly Clarkson and her fiance Brandon Blackstock have decided to forgo all of the traditional trappings and will elope instead.
Kelly and Brandon’s original plan for an “earthy” outdoor fall wedding officiated by Blake Shelton has been cast aside mission impossible.
Kelly revealed to PEOPLE, “We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope.’ We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions.”
Their schedules just don’t permit the time and energy needed to orchestrate such an affair.
She explained, “I have a Christmas record coming out. I’m doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm to educate kids about safe driving. He has two kids who just started school. We’re going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and Brandon’s got one of the biggest artists in country music. He’s flying everywhere with Blake Shelton.”
‘Save the Date’ cards were already sent out and details on the wedding were being leaked. Now they plan to send out an engagement photo to everyone saying, “Thank you so much for understanding, but it’s just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister.”
They don’t feel like they need a huge party, “Our whole life is a celebration. That’s what we kept laughing about. We don’t need another day where we throw a big party. Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, ‘We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special.'”
There will be a huge “stock the bar” party thrown by a friend for the couple after construction is completed at their new home. The event will be attended by all of their recently uninvited wedding guests.
