Former American Idol contestant Kellie Pickler has announced her engagement to songwriter Kyle Jacobs. The romantic proposal happened on a Florida beach at sunset and according to the talented singer, “It turned out to be the most amazing day of my life.”
Her groom-to-be went all out in preparing for the moment when he would pop the big question. He arranged to have a blanket, champagne and candles waiting for them as they strolled along the beach. He said, “We had a little champagne and talked and laughed and cried.”
Kellie, 23, has struggled with family issues that go back to her childhood. She was abandoned by both parents at age two, and she was raised by her grandparents, except for a few brief stints with her mother than quickly fell apart. She hasn’t heard from her since 1997. Her father spent time in prison for armed robbery and remained estranged from her until recently.
She said, “I’m in the happiest place I’ve ever been.” She has reportedly renewed a relationship with her father, Clyde ‘Bo’ Pickler, who has been sober for a year. She plans to have him walk her down the aisle.
