‘Family Ties’ child star Justine Bateman has embarked on a new career path that is far removed from acting.
She enrolled as a Freshman student at UCLA in the fall of 2012 to study Computer Science and has been blogging about her experiences on a Tumblr page titled ‘College Life.’
In a post titled, ‘I Finally Told My Calculus Class To Shut Up’ – Bateman recalls, “I interrupted the professor with a raised hand and when he called on me I turned to the class and said, ‘I don’t mean to be an a**hole, but the talking is out of hand. It’s disrespectful to the teacher and it’s hard to hear him over it all.'”
She acknowledged, “It was quiet after that, and they probably all hate me now, but F**K IT.”
The 47-year-old is best known for her 80’s sitcom portrayal as Alex P. Keaton’s sister Mallory. During that seven year stint, the teen was nominated for two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
Justine is a licensed pilot of single-engine aircraft, a certified scuba diver and served a 3-year term on the National Board of Directors of the Screen Actors Guild, which ended in 2009.
The acting gigs have slowed to a few each year–her last guest spot was on a 2013 episode of ‘Modern Family.’
She wed Mark Fluent in 2001 and the couple have a son, Duke, and a daughter, Gianetta. Her younger brother is actor Jason Bateman.
