‘Mad Men’ star Jon Hamm will check into a Boston hospital next week to undergo throat surgery to remove two troublesome polyps.

The actor recently discovered he had the lesions after seeing a doctor when he became concerned after coughing up blood. We apologize to the squeamish–we admit that it bothered us to write it.

The 42-year-old is just one of many singers and actors who have developed nodules on their vocal cords due to overuse.

John Mayer and Adele have both undergone the procedure that required a followup period of voice rest before they were allowed to resume their performance schedules.

Sunday night Hamm got beat out at the Primetime Emmys, when ‘The Newsroom’ actor Jeff Daniels scored an upset win in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category.

Jon has been nominated six times for an Emmy for his ‘Mad Men’ portrayal of Don Draper. For those keeping track, he has been beaten out every year since he debuted the role in 2008.

He and Amy Poehler hosted a well-attended Emmy Awards after party for losers last night. Jon explained, “We figured that the winners get celebrated enough so we thought it was about time that the losers get celebrated.” Actually, winners weren’t barred from the festivities … but did have to fork over $1,000 to charity.
