“Grown Ups” appears to be a great family movie with a premise that is geared to the upcoming holiday weekend. After their childhood basketball coach passes away, five good friends and former teammates reunite after many years, for a Fourth of July get together.

With a cast that includes Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Adam Sandler and Kevin James, you might expect “Grown Ups” to be a constant laugh fest, but it isn’t.

Don’t get me wrong because there are some LOL moments, but when you have five exceptional comedians in the film, you want and expect a lot more. From guys who are normally hilarious, it was definitely not their best work.

Before it sounds like I am completely trashing the movie, let me say that I do recommend it. It’s the perfect movie for a family to enjoy. Kids and parents will be entertained.

The fact that it is a family movie is also the biggest issue. The super raunchy and inappropriate humor that we are used to from these five had to be toned down a bit too much, making it funny but not hilarious. It was certainly not “Hangover” funny…it is much closer to run-of-the-mill funny.

The film does have some really great messages; the importance of friendship, not being overtaken by modern technology, and sometimes losing is actually winning.

If I have one complaint about Adam Sandler movies, it’s that there is always a woman who is so drop-dead gorgeous she seems out of place. Salma Hayek plays Adam Sandler’s wife, and finds herself stuck in the middle of the woods…it is so unbelievable.

College kids planning on laughing until they cry should opt out of this one. If you are a family and need a good outing this weekend, go check it out!

I’m Danni and sometimes being a grown up is awesome…other times, not so much!
