The Australian Thinkers Summit was held this weekend in Canberra. Some 1,000 people, including actress Cate Blanchett, gathered to come up with ideas to aid Australia’s many challenges. The actress was accompanied by her playwright husband Andrew Upton and their one week old son Ignatius.
The summit was held at the parliament building and included scientists, artists, engineers, central bankers, economists and an actress. The goal of the summit was to “shake some new ideas loose from the tree”. The group was seeking many solid ideas to come out of the two day meeting. One proposal included one stop childcare centers.
While there are 10 official topics including health, economy, environment and arts, just about anything is open for discussion. That has already resulted in some quirky suggestions and presents a challenge to panelists who must whittle the number of ideas down to about 10 key policy proposals to be handed to the government.
Blanchett and her husband welcomed their new son on April 13, 2008. They have two other young sons, Dashiell John, 6, and Roman Robert, 3. We’ve got that story and family photos HERE.
