Camille Grammer is recovering from surgery for endometrial cancer and is expected to make a full recovery, according to her rep.
The former ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ celeb underwent a radical hysterectomy to treat the disease while it was still in an early stage.
Howard Bragman confirmed to PEOPLE, “Camille was at an elevated risk due to genetic issues. The surgery went well and she will require a significant recuperation period.”
He added, “She has been diligent about regular checkups and monitoring, which explains the early detection and rapid treatment. She urges all women to be aware of genetic factors relating to women’s cancers and seek regular screening.”
Grammer hopes to raise awareness about the most common cancer of the female reproductive system, with nearly 50,000 cases occurring each year in the U.S. She participated in a Public Service Announcement in 1996 after being diagnosed with Irritable Bowell Syndrome. Perhaps she’ll opt to do the same to raise awareness for endometrial cancer.
Camille, 45, has two children with ex-husband Kelsey Grammer. Daughter Mason, 12, and son Jude, 9, were both born via surrogate mother.
The former reality star has been dating Dimitri Charalambopoulos since 2011. During an interview, she described him as “a 30-something regular guy who is not in the business.”
