The ladies behind the critically acclaimed movie Bridesmaids have done the big screen proud. The film brought in $26 million in its opening weekend, but the success was just beginning for the project that had a budget of $32 million.
In the past six weeks, the movie has grossed nearly $150 million and is expected to break box office records in two separate categories over the weekend.
Produced by Judd Apatow, the comedy could become his highest grossing domestic film, and achieve status as the #1 female-led comedy of all-time.
That’s saying something because Apatow has serious creds already with the likes of The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pineapple Express and Knocked Up.
The movie, co-written by Saturday Night Live cast member Kristin Wiig, is not your average chick flick. It’s raunchy, inappropriate and down right hilarious. It’s pretty much the female version of The Hangover.
Sex And The City currently holds the record as the biggest R-rated female driven comedy, but Bridesmaids is expected to knock Carrie Bradshaw and the girls from their #1 perch before the holiday weekend is over.
