Nancy Pitt, the mother of Hollywood A-lister Brad Pitt, raised a few eyebrows with an op-ed piece that she submitted to Missouri newspaper The Springfield News-Leader earlier this week.
Based on inquiries from readers, the publication added an editor’s note indicating the letter writer was not the actor’s mother. A second editor’s note,”to clear up earlier confusion,” acknowledged that Nancy Pitt was the mother of the famous celebrity.
Her submission was in response to a previous opinion piece justifying a Christian’s right to refuse to vote for Mitt Romney because he is a Mormon.
Mrs. Pitt wrote, “Any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon.”
She continued, “Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama — a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.”
For the record, Brad Pitt has previously thrown his support to President Obama and does support same-sex marriage. He and Angelina Jolie voiced their opposition to getting married unless everyone in the country — including gay couples — had the right to do so.
Bowing to pressure from their six children, they have decided to back away from that bold statement and do plan to wed sometime this year after announcing their engagement in April.
Previously responding to his mother’s detractors, he claimed, “Shes very, very loving — very open, genuine, and it’s hilarious because she always gets painted in the tabloids as a she-devil. There’s not an ounce of malice in her. She wants everyone to be happy.”
