Former President Bill Clinton was admitted to the Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital after experiencing chest pains on Thursday. He has since undergone a balloon procedure to open one of his coronary arteries through the insertion of several wire mesh stents.
Clinton spokesman Douglas Band released a written statement: “Following a visit to his cardiologist, he underwent a procedure to place two stents in one of his coronary arteries. President Clinton is in good spirits, and will continue to focus on the work of his Foundation and Haiti’s relief and long-term recovery efforts. In 2004, President Clinton underwent a successful quadruple bypass operation to free four blocked arteries.”
Secretary of State Hilary Clinton is reportedly on her way to New York City from Washington D.C. to be with her husband. She is scheduled to depart on Friday on a five day trip to Saudi Arabia. No word on whether she will delay her departure.
Daughter Chelsea Clinton is reportedly at her father’s bedside. She lives and works in New York and is engaged to Marc Mezvinsky. The couple will be married this summer.
