Ben Roethlisberger has issued a short statement in response to sexual assault accusations made by Andrea McNulty. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback has been silent until now and in a 60 second sound bite, promised to fight the allegations.
He said, “I would never, ever force myself on a woman. I want to fight to protect my family and my reputation. I’m not going to discuss my private life in the media. I’ll respond to her outrageous allegations in the appropriate forum.”
NcNulty, an employee of Harrah’s Casino in Reno has filed a civil lawsuit that involves six counts: assault, sexual assault and battery, false pretenses, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress and fraud.
According to the court filing, Roethlisberger was in town for a golf tournament and staying at Harrah’s in July 2008. He phoned the front desk to report that he was having trouble with his television set. When McNulty went to his room to look into the problem, she claims he made sexual advances and forced himself upon her. She states that his actions were unsolicited and unwanted.
