Anthony Anderson will begin starring in Law & Order, replacing Jesse L. Martin, who has played Detective Ed Green for a nine year run. Anderson will play a new detective partnered with Jeremy Sisto‘s Cyrus Lupo. Anderson previously appeared as a cop on an episode of Law & Order: SVU.

Anderson, 37, was born and raised in California. He first received recognition in the NBC television show Hang Time and had a breakout role in Romeo Must Die. Since then he has starred in a number of films, including Exit Wounds, Barbershop and Kangaroo Jack.

In 2003, he got his own sitcom on The WB, All About the Anderson’s, which also starred John Amos. The show was canceled after one season. In March 2005, he joined the cast of The Shield during their fourth season, playing the role of Antwon Mithcell. He received critical acclaim and returned in the fifth and sixth seasons for a few episodes.

He starred in the animated family film Hoodwinked and had a supporting role in The Departed. He also starred in the live-action Transformers film. His most recent gig has been in the FOX police drama K-Ville. He was also an emcee on a number of episodes of It’s Showtime at the Apollo.
