And then there were nine–Thia lower left, Naima lower right …
There was a double elimination last night on the hit Fox reality show American Idol. Because the judges used their ‘save’ last week to keep Casey Abrams on the show, they had to cut two contestants on Thursday night. With a record 55 million votes cast at this stage of the competition, Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia reached the end of their Idol journey.
Naima, 26, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is married and has two daughters. She is a dancer with a Afri-centric dance company, and sings with her husband in R.A.S. Movement, a reggae and world beat band.
Thia, 16, of Mountain House, California, is of Philippine descent. She has won singing competitions and has sung the national anthem at Stanford and San Francisco 49ers games. She appeared on America’s Got Talent in 2009, making the quarterfinals. She has the distinction as the youngest finalist to appear on Idol.
The Idol Top 9 is comprised of six males and three females. We happen to think that the remaining ladies definitely have the singing chops and should be able to hold their own. Paul McDonald and Stefano Langone appear to be on the shakiest ground.
