Country singer Shania Twain, 48, was famous for flaunting her midriff before showing skin became common practice for women in music.
The entertainer chatted with ET Canada regarding the current trend of entertainers flashing bare flesh, “I don’t think pop stars are too sexy now. The boundaries are really up to the individual and then it’s up to the viewer whether they like it or not.”
She too was criticized for showing her stomach in a music video before it was common. Twain admits, “I’m very comfortable with myself. I’m not bearing my midriff for effect or for shock factor. I’m just doing it because I like my midriff.”
Shania is working on her fifth studio album and reports it has allowed her to unleash the anger and despair she felt when she learned that her husband was having an affair with her best friend in 2008.
She revealed. “In real life, when I’m writing this stuff I’m probably swearing every third word as I’m working through all of the emotion that’s really there.”
Twain will soon be at the midway point in her two year Vegas Still The One residency at Caesars Palace that runs through 2014.
Sharing a different point of view on pop star nudity is ‘Prism’ artist Katy Perry. The ‘Roar’ singer told NPR, “It’s such a strange world. Like females in pop — everybody is getting naked. I mean, I’ve been naked before but I don’t feel like I have to always get naked to be noticed.”
“I’m not talking about anyone in particular. I’m talking about all of them. I mean, it’s like, everybody is so naked. We know you’ve got it. I got it too. I’ve taken it off — I’ve taken it out here and there. Put it away.”
