Kris Humphries may have been unlucky in love but he was upbeat after collecting $749,000 at Christie’s auction house for the engagement ring once worn by his ex-wife Kim Kardashian.

The 16 carat Lorraine Schwartz sparkler was valued at between $300,000 – $500,000 at the time of listing, despite early media hype suggesting Humphries paid $2 million for the reality star’s rock.

The Christies.com website described the auction item: “Impressive diamond ring set with a rectangular-cut diamond, weighing approximately 16.21 carats, flanked on either side by a trapeze-cut diamond, each weighing approximately 1.80 carats, mounted in platinum, in a Lorraine Schwartz pink wood case. Property of a gentleman with a portion of the proceeds to benefit a charity.”

Following brisk bidding by two participants on site, a final telephone bid of $620,000 was successful. Commission and fees brought the price to $749,000. The NBA player was reportedly “very pleased” with the sale, according to his rep.

Humphries proposed to the ‘KUWTK’ celeb in May 2011 and got married three months later. She filed for divorce on October 31, 2011 — 72 days after their E! Wedding extravaganza. The couple reached a settlement in April 2013 and the divorce was finalized on June 3, 2013 — less than two weeks before KK gave birth to her daughter North West.
