Taylor Swift will soon be heading to Cape Town, South Africa to begin filming ‘The Giver,’ a big-screen adaptation of a young-adult novel.
She’ll co-star with Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes and Jeff Bridges as members of a Utopian society where there is no conflict, racism or sickness. A young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the “real” world.
Holmes has been cast as the mother of young Jonas, the boy at the center of the tale. Swift, a late-add to the cast, will take on the role of Rosemary, the last teen who was mentored by The Giver.
Swift, 23, recently wrapped her Red tour, leaving her free to try her hand at film work once again. She made her debut as a member of the 2010 ensemble cast of ‘Valentine’s Day.’
Katie, 34, recently resurrected her big-screen acting career after taking on a series of Broadway roles in Manhattan to be near her daughter Suri. So far this year she has been working in New York City on ‘Days and Nights’ and ‘Mania Days.’ ‘The Giver’ will be her first on-location project away from home base since she divorced Tom Cruise in 2012.
Filming of ‘The Giver’ begins on October 7 in Cape Town, with a scheduled release date already slated for August 15, 2014.
