One of the funniest bits during Sunday night’s Primetime Emmys was the hilarious appearance of Will Ferrell and his three sons to present the final two awards of the evening.
Many gave up on the lackluster show long before Ferrell and his posse of children took the stage to hand out the prestigious awards for Best Comedy Series and Best Drama Series.
The comedic actor appeared in a t-shirt, shorts and sandals and was accompanied by Magnus, 9, Mattias, 6, and Axel, 3. The older brothers were dressed in soccer togs and the little guy rocked plaid shorts, rubber boots and clung to a blanket.
Ferrell, 46, told the crowd that Helen Mirren and Maggie Smith had bailed on their presenting duties “literally 45 minutes ago” and he was forced to bring the kids along because he “couldn’t find child care, OK?”
He mused, “We had a soccer game, there was a neighbor’s birthday party… I didn’t have time to do my hair! It doesn’t matter, it’s great to be here.”
Between awards Ferrell feigned annoyance with his tribe, “You have to go to the bathroom?! I asked you backstage if you had to go to the bathroom. So you’re just going to have to hold it. This is the Emmys. Don’t blow this for me!”
