During last night’s NBC Healing In the Heartland benefit to aid Oklahoma tornado victims, Miranda Lambert broke into sobs as she was performing an emotional rendition of ‘The House That Built Me.’

The song is a country ballad describes a woman going back, as an adult, to see the house that she grew up in. The lyrics refer to it as “the house that built me” because of all the memories that come flooding back as she goes through the rooms and property, remembering a number of things – including the fact that her dog was buried under a particular tree in the back yard.

Unfortunately, the storm ravaged Moore, Oklahoma residents will never again get an opportunity to revisit those tangible memories because everything they had has been destroyed by the violent tornado that ripped away their homes.

That realization is likely what caused Miranda to struggle with the Grammy-winning song that she recorded in 2010 and has performed flawlessly for years.

After her emotional rendition, Miranda mouthed “Sorry” and “I love you Oklahoma.”
