The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency issued a warning to U.S. national goalkeeper Hope Solo after she provided a urine sample that tested positive for the banned substance Canrenone.
A test on June 15 put the 30-year-old in jeopardy when evidence of a diuretic came to light. The athlete explained what happens and will be allowed to compete at the 2012 London Olympics later this month after the public sanction.
Solo released this statement: “I took a medication prescribed by my personal doctor for pre-menstrual purposes that I did not know contained a diuretic. Once informed of this fact, I immediately cooperated with USADA and shared with them everything they needed to properly conclude that I made an honest mistake, and that the medication did not enhance my performance in any way.”
If you don’t follow women’s soccer, perhaps you saw Solo during her recent stint on season thirteen of Dancing with the Stars. She and pro partner Maks Chmerkovskiy made it to the semi-final round – pics here.
Her other claim to fame is an appearance in the ESPN 2011 ‘Body Issue’ wearing absolutely nothing.
