Academy Award winning actress Tatum O’Neal has struggled with addiction issues for a good part of her adult life. The actress recently suffered a drug relapse and has sought treatment.

A source close to the situation said, “Tatum made the decision to voluntarily check into rehab after having a relapse about a month ago when she began using cocaine again.”

Tatum, 48, isn’t the only family member seeking treatment. Her brother Redmond O’Neal is in a rehab facility in Southern California for heroin addiction.

Friends are reportedly concerned because the facility that Tatum has chosen may not be the best treatment solution:

“Tatum is doing really, really bad at the facility she is at. Tatum isn’t at a 12 step based treatment program, and that is a huge problem because someone with Tatum’s addiction needs to be at a rehab facility like Betty Ford or Cirque Lodge. She is in denial about how bad her addiction is and refuses to embrace the 12 step AA model to get sober.”

The Paper Moon star and her father Ryan O’Neal have had a difficult relationship and she has previously stated that she began a cocaine-fueled life to escape. “My father had an abusive streak a mile wide. It was rough, just rough around the house.”

We wish her well.
