Prince William and his gorgeous bride Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, arrived in Canada on Thursday to begin a nine-day tour, their first official overseas trip.

Days before embarking on their North American tour, the newlyweds delighted the crowds at Wimbledon when they showed up to take in some tennis action.

Thursday, in Ottawa, the Royal couple greeted cheering crowds at the National War Memorial, where they were joined by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his wife Laureen. Prince William laid a wreath before personally speaking with veterans among the crowd.

Kate wore a navy scoop-backed dress with a lace overlay and tan stilettos. Later in the evening, she and William attended a barbecue reception of young Canadian up-and-comers. The outdoor event was forced inside due to rain.

Friday the couple will take part in Canada Day celebrations, including a concert and a speech by the Prince. They will also hand out flags to newly-minted Canadians at a citizenship ceremony.

Today, July 1, would have been Princess Diana’s 50th birthday. To mark the occasion, Newsweek featured an age progression photo on their cover, of Princess Diana walking beside Princess Catherine. The image didn’t sit well with everyone.
