Eddie Fisher died Wednesday night at his home in Berkeley, CA, after complications from hip surgery.

The popular singer, known for his high-profile marriages to Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor and Connie Stevens, recorded four songs that hit number one on the pop charts between 1950 and 1956, with dozens more making it in the top 40.

He recorded his first hit, “Thinking of You,” in 1950, and the following year he had his first million-seller, “Any Time.”

Fisher’s best friend was showman and producer Mike Todd, who died in a plane crash in 1958. Fisher, who was married to “America’s Sweetheart” Debbie Reynolds, began an affair with Todd’s widow, Elizabeth Taylor, causing one of Hollywood’s biggest scandals at the time.

Fisher is survived by four children, Carrie Fisher, Todd Fisher, Joely Fisher and Tricia Leigh Fisher.
