There has been much speculation about who CNN would pick to replace veteran television host Larry King. The network announced today that British journalist Piers Morgan has been handed the prime-time hour duties beginning in January.
Morgan, 45, is the former editor of The Mirror and recently hosted Piers Morgan Life Stories. He is currently a judge on America’s Got Talent, and is a past winner of Celebrity Apprentice.
Piers said in a statement released after the announcement: “I am thrilled to be joining CNN, and very much looking forward to bringing my own style of interviewing to the world’s biggest, and best TV news organization.”
CNN President Joe Klein said that Morgan “has made his name posing tough questions to public figures, holding them accountable for their words and deeds.”
King, 76, announced in June that he would be leaving Larry King Live due to declining ratings.
