Anna Fermanova, a 24-year-old beautician living in Plano, TX, is the latest Russian beauty accused of being a spy, and just like Anna Chapman, who was among a ring of Russian spies arrested recently, Fermanova has left a trail of sexy Facebook pictures.
Acting on a tip, federal officials searched the luggage of the 24-year-old Latvian woman at New York’s JFK International Airport on March 1 and found a Raptor 4X Night Vision Weapons Sight and two advanced night-vision rifle sights stuffed in a pair of UGG boots. She was questioned about the scopes, which she said she bought for her husband’s hunting buddies in Russia. When asked if she knew it was illegal to take them out of the country, she claimed she was “not sure” about the papers she signed, although she admitted blacking out serial numbers “so they would be less noticeable.”
The scopes were confiscated and Fermanova was allowed to fly to Moscow. After returning from her four month trip, she was arrested on July 15 at her home in Texas, and charged with “knowingly and intentionally” attempting to export “defense articles on the United States Munitions list” – charges that carry 10 years in prison.
Her passport was seized and she was put under house arrest after posting $50,000 bond.
