It was ‘Movie Night’ on Dancing With the Stars on Monday. The eight remaining contestants and their pro partners gave performances that ranged from near perfect in the judges eyes to dismal at best.
Niecy Nash and her partner Louis Van Amstel did a lively jive to the strains of “La Bamba”. They earned a lackluster 18 for their efforts. Len Goodman told the comedian that she definitely had “bounce in her bazookas”. During her post-dance interview, the funny woman made a humorous plea for votes: “To all you big girls across America — you need to vote for me because I’m tired and I’m hungry.”
Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke earned an 18 for their quickstep. Bruno thought it was too wild and Carrie Ann thought they had some good moments.
Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy earned a 22 for their jive. The judges thought she was racing ahead of the music and that she made a mistake by trying to include the splits at the end because she didn’t pull it off. Brooke Burke asked Erin if there was a budding romance. Andrews quipped: “Not until he gives me a ring like Chad got for Cheryl. Are you kidding me?”
Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower had a good night with the judges, earning a 23 for their “Risky Business” cha-cha. Pavelka reenacted the iconic Tom Cruise underwear entrance and apparently took all the skin off of his knee in his dramatic slid.
Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood earned a 21 for their interesting interpretation of the movie “9 to 5”, with Anderson dressed as Dolly Parton. Len marked them down because of their theatrics at the beginning of the number. He called it “24 bars of messing around”.
Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani attempted a foxtrot that put them at the bottom of the leaderboard with an embarrassing 15. The film clip that was shown prior to their dance number had the mother of eight yawning and looking decidedly disinterested in what Tony was attempting to teach her. When she actually managed to execute a step to his satisfaction she joked, “Isn’t it fun when you ask me to do something and I actually do it.” He lamented, “You have no idea.”
Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough danced an amazing tango to “Pretty Woman”. They earned a near perfect 29 for their efforts. Expect to see them recreate the dance on tonight’s elimination show.
Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya danced the rumba to “Armageddon”. The judges gave them an impressive 27. Judges comments ranged from “like a ballet dancer”, “superb”, and “tender sophistication”. The Olympic figure skater indicates that dancing and skating have some similarities but the hips must be stiff and tight on the ice and have to move with the dance.
So who will go home after the elimination show tonight on ABC? The obvious choice continues to be Kate Gosselin. She made an interesting plea to her fan base this week. She said that eight special little friends visited her this week in L.A. and they told her that their new favorite night of the week is Monday because they can see their mom on television.
UPDATE: Tuesday Elimination Results: In the bottom two spots were Pamela Anderson and Kate Gosselin. It turned out that the darling of TLC network did reach the end of the line with her fan base and was eliminated. The reality show mom cried and finally spoke after wiping at her nose and eyes. She said, “It’s OK. I’m sorry I’m crying. I’m a crybaby…Honestly, I can’t wait to watch the rest of these people perform on Monday nights.” SEE ELIMINATION VIDEO HERE.
