Actor Peter Graves died on Sunday, March 14, just four days before his 84th birthday. He collapsed outside his home in Pacific Palisades, shortly after returning from a Sunday brunch with his family. His daughter administered CPR in an attempt to revive him. According to Graves’ business manager, Graves died of a heart attack.
He is best known for his starring role as Jim Phelps in the long running CBS television series Mission: Impossible but will also be remembered for his Roger, Roger scene in the movie “Airplane” – see video below.
Graves was honored on October 30, 2009 with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan Endress, their three daughters Kelly, Claudia and Amanda and his brother, actor James Arness, 86, who starred in the long running television western series Gunsmoke.
