Comedian Sunda Croonquist has an African American mother, a Swedish father, a lawyer husband and a Jewish mother-in-law. That makes her half black, half Swedish and throw into the mix the fact that she was raised Roman Catholic. She has crafted all of those pieces of her life into a comedy routine that she performs on Comedy Central and in nightclubs all over the country.
It seems that her husband’s mother, Ruth Zaffrin, has had ‘enough already’ of the mother-in-law jokes. She has filed a lawsuit accusing Croonquist of “spreading false, defamatory and racist lies.” The disgruntled MIL was thrilled with her daughter-in-laws comedic routine for a period of time but drew the line at specific personal information on Croonquist’s website that gave away her identity. She wants that information removed and is seeking a monetary settlement for her pain and suffering.
Croonquist is willing to comply with the removal of specific family details from her site and removing the MIL material from her comedy routine, but draws the line at paying her husband’s mother any damages.
