American Idol contestant David Cook shared with last weeks audience that he has high blood pressure. Immediately after competing in Tuesday evenings show, the talented musician was taken to a hospital after experiencing heart palpitations and other symptoms consistent with elevated blood pressure.

It turns out there is a serious health crisis in Cook’s family. His brother Adam Cook is battling brain cancer. That would be enough to cause a rise in blood pressure. Add the concerns of having a loved one incapacitated with a serious illness to the grueling Idol schedule and it is small wonder Cook fell ill. UPDATE: Adam Cook died on May 3, 2009.

People magazine indicates that Idol winner Jordin Sparks lost three people close to her during the course of Season 6. They included her best friend, an uncle and a grandmother. She remembered the added stress as exhausting and overwhelming.

David Cook has put his brothers initials, A.C. on the electric guitar that he has used in some of his Idol performances. He was reluctant to share his brothers story out of respect for his brother’s privacy and because he doesn’t want to get a sympathy vote.

The Board of Directors at Clarian Health in Indianapolis have arranged for Adam and his wife Kendra to be flown by private Leer jet to Los Angeles this week. The couple will be in attendance to watch the Idol contestants perform on Tuesday and Wednesday. A medic and nurse have accompanied Adam and will be at his side during the show.

The 25-year-old native of Blue Springs, Mo., brought his aspiring music career to Tulsa two years ago after graduating from Central Missouri State University with a degree in graphic design. But despite a college degree and even a few career opportunities, Cook’s friends and band mates from Tulsa say there’s nothing Cook would rather be doing than performing and making music.

The talented performer, a fan favorite, has consistently been among the top performers. We wish Adam and Kendra well as they travel this difficult journey together.
