Lance Cpl Maria Lauterbach, the 20-year-old pregnant Marine who has been missing for a month is dead according to Onslow County sheriff Ed Brown.

The young woman has been missing since December 14, when she purchased a bus ticket from Jacksonville, NC to El Paso, TX, which was never used.

Lauterbach, a compulsive liar according to her mother and military investigators, had accused a superior officer of sexually assaulting her.

After the investigation went sour due to inconsistencies by the reported victim, Maria Lauterbach, it is believed she may have fled her post due to fears of being charged with making a false statement.

The accused superior officer, Cesar Armando Lauren, is the suspect in the case and his whereabouts are unknown.

“They don’t know where he is,” Brown said of the suspect. “He’s gone.” The court papers said the anticipated birth of the baby “might provide evidentiary credence to charges she lodged with military authorities that she was sexually assaulted by a senior military person.

“Brown said a key witness in the case said the Marine was dead for some time.”

Although the body of the 20-year-old pregnant Marine has not been recovered, it is believed she was buried in a shallow grave.
