Halle Berry is digging herself a great big ole hole after an unfortunate slip on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno that has many calling the actress anti-Semitic.

Berry was on The Tonight Show to promote her new film “Things We Lost in the Fire,” and was showing photos of herself that she had distorted on the computer using Photobooth. She said she does this whenever she is feeling “down about the world” and it cracks her up.

The first photo Halle showed Jay and the audience was a picture of herself with a huge, distorted nose. “This one is like my Jewish cousin,” she said. According to sources, the audience fell silent. The comment was cut from the show that aired, and a laugh track was added. (See video below)

Berry said she didn’t mean to offend anyone and realized the comment could be seen as offensive, so she asked Leno to remove it, which he did.

Halle then goes on to make matters worse for herself by blaming her Jewish friends:

“What happened was I was backstage before the show and I have three girls who are Jewish who work for me. We were going through pictures to see which ones looked silly, and one of my Jewish friends said http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bygoNcmLc68
