Robert “Joe” Halderman has pleaded not guilty to charges that he aimed to extort $2 million from David Letterman.
The CBS producer was arraigned in a Manhattan courthouse this afternoon, following his Thursday morning arrest on charges that he threatened to expose Letterman’s affair with staff member Stephanie Birkitt, who was living with Halderman at the time.
Sources claim Halderman was seeking money to help with child support payments he owes ex-wife Patty Montet, from whom he divorced in 2004.

Lead attorney Gerald Shargel described his client as a respected father of two that coaches soccer in Connecticut.

Halderman’s bail was set at $200,000.
