“Fox News” is reporting that Sean Taylor died as a result of the gun shot wound to his upper leg. The Washington Red Skins free safety was shot in a home invasion early Monday morning.
Taylor’s father phoned Richard Sharpstein, the family lawyer and friend , to report his passing. He was quoted as saying:
‘It’s a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans.”
Taylor was shot at 1:45am Monday and was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery.
Taylor suffered artery damage to his upper leg in yesterday’s shooting. He had suffered a tremendous amount of blood loss and was said to have never regained consciousness. Doctors speculated that he may have suffered brain damage. He died early Tuesday morning of his injuries.
Taylor joined the Washington Redskins after being drafted 5th overall in the 2004 NFL draft. He signed a seven year, $18 million contract with the team.
