You are going to want to catch the 2nd Annual Idol Gives Back special that will air this week on April 9th. The crowd went crazy at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre when actor Brad Pitt took the stage on Sunday night, during the taping of the event. He was on hand to introduce a film clip showing former Idol contestant Chris Daughtry‘s humanitarian trip to Uganda.
Pitt was also recognized for his efforts to rebuild parts of New Orleans that were heavily hit by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. His foundation, Make It Right Nola, is working in the hard hit 9th Ward. The actor has pledged $5 million and has solicited donations worldwide to help with the rebuilding project.
The audience went so crazy it was hard to hear what was being said. When Pitt tried to thank the crowd for their warm welcome, it was soon realized that his microphone wasn’t working. Stage manager Debbie McVickers rushed out to remedy the situation and joked that she just wanted to touch Pitt. Who can blame her – I am currently looking into becoming a stage manager.
Last year the Idol Gives Back show raised more than $75 million. This is incredible! This year the bar has been raised through the roof when via taped message, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown pledged to donate $200 million. How do you top that?
The charity show promises to be an exciting night with performances by: Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, John Legend, Gloria Estefan, Annie Lennox, Fergie and Mariah Carey.
And for you music lovers, all of the songs performed during the event will be available for download on Itunes right after the telecast.
