The always edgy comedian George Carlin died yesterday at the age of 71 of heart failure. The comedian had suffered a previous heart attack and had also endured a long battle with drugs and alcohol.
Carlin was survived by his wife, Sally Wade and daughter Kelly Carlin McCall. In a past interview with People magazine George said:
“The world is a big theater-in-the round as far as I am concerned, and I’d love to watch it spin into oblivion. Tune in and watch the human adventure…That’s what I want heaven to be.”
George was best known for his Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television routine. Although the high court ruled his material to be indecent, he never strayed from his act.
The Grammy winner was to be honored in November 2008 by the John F. Kennedy Center with the much coveted Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The award will now be presented posthumously.
