Actor Ryan O’Neal, 67, and his son Redmond O’Neal, 23, were arrested early Wednesday morning after police officers, fulfilling a probation search of Redmond’s bedroom at the senior O’Neil’s Malibu home, discovered methamphetamine. They broadened their search at the residence and discovered a vial of the same drug in Ryan O’Neal’s bedroom. L.A. Police booked both father and son, who are being held on $10,000 bail.

The surprise compliance check at the 21000 block of Pacific Coast Highway occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m. today and the pair were arrested at 7:30 a.m. according to Steve Whitmore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Redmond O’Neal has had several previous drug arrests in 2005 for meth and cocaine possession and entered a guilty plea in June 2008 for heroin and crystal meth possession and DUI. He is due back in court on October 31 for a progress report to the court on that charge.

Ryan O’Neal was arrested in 2007 for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm during an argument with another son Griffin O’Neal. Those charges were dropped for insufficient evidence. Daughter Tatum O’Neal was arrested in June 2008 while attempting to buy drugs on a NYC street earlier this year. She claims that the police saved her life.

Redmond’s mother, actress Farrah Fawcett, has been battling cancer and has undergone both chemotherapy and surgery. O’Neal accompanied his ex wife to Germany for treatment that is not available in the U.S.
