Apple CEO Steve Jobs stepped down six months ago to take a medical leave after losing a tremendous amount of weight. Many feared that Jobs was suffering a recurrence of cancer but the chief executive countered those rumors by reporting that he was merely suffering a hormone imbalance.
The state of Jobs health has been a hot internet topic for quite some time. Back in October 2008 there were rumors that Jobs had suffered a heart attack, caused Apple stock to temporarily plummet. The CEO underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer in 2004.
The Wall Street Journal reported this morning that Jobs underwent a liver transplant two months ago in Tennessee and has recovered sufficiently to begin working part time in the very near future.
Many expected that 54-year-old Jobs reappearance would coincide with the launch of the new iPhone 3G S that occurred this week. When questioned about Jobs return to the helm, Apple spokeswoman Katie Cotton confirmed, “Steve continues to look forward to returning at the end of June.
During Jobs leave of absence, Apple COO Tim Cook has been running the company. He is expected to continue in an expanded role in the short term.
