For the third straight time, the Americans have won the Solheim Cup (16-12), their eighth overall in the eleven year history of the event. Morgan Pressel delivered the winning point with a victory over Anna Nordqvist on Sunday.
The U.S. won the coveted title after trailing mid-afternoon. The team was energized when Angela Stanford beat Becky Brewerton to pick up the first point. Following suit were Juli Inkster and Brittany Lang.
Team USA members were Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Angela Stanford, Kristy McPherson, Nicole Castrale, Christina Kim, Brittany Lang, Morgan Pressel, Brittany Lincicome, Natalie Gulbis, Michelle Wie and Juli Inkster. Non-playing assistants were Kelly Robbins and Meg Mallon.
Michelle Wie had the best scores of the week with a 3-0-1 record. After the win she grabbed a U.S. flag and ran around with it. She was captain’s pick. See all individual results here.
The biennial golf tournament for professional women golfers was spearheaded by Norwegian-American manufacturer Karsten Solheim. The event was held August 17-23 in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Team USA was led by Solheim Cup Captain Beth Daniel.
