Ventura County Sheriff’s Department arrested Heather Locklear on a charge of hit-and-run following an incident that took place at 4:00 a.m. Saturday morning near her home in Westlake Village, California.
A resident called police at 7:48 p.m. Saturday night after discovering debris and a damaged road sign. Officers investigated and found evidence that a vehicle went up and over a curb and knocked down a combination speed limit and no parking sign.
A surveillance camera in the guard shack of the gated community led police to the Melrose Place celeb’s residence. Upon arrival they found a black BMW with damage to the right wheel well, which was consistent with the circumstances of the collision. Debris at the scene also matched up with the damaged vehicle.
The offense is a misdemeanor which allowed Locklear to be cited and released without being taken into custody though it is still considered an arrest. She must appear in court on May 17.
The actress entered a treatment program in June 2008 for prescription drug addiction. She was subsequently arrested for DUI in November 2008, for driving under the influence of prescription medication. The case was dismissed in January 2009 in exchange for a no-contest plea of reckless driving.
Locklear and her fellow Melrose Place alum Jack Wagner began a relationship in April 2007. The actress was married to Richie Sambora. They remain friends and share joint custody of their 13-year-old daughter Ava.
