A deadly tornado ripped through Yazoo City, Mississippi Saturday, killing 10 and leaving a path of destruction several miles wide in it’s wake.
Governor Haley Barbour said there was “utter obliteration” in Yazoo County, where three died, and he declared a state of emergency in 17 counties. Choctaw County and Holmes County also suffered severe damage.
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spokesman Greg Flynn said five people were killed in Choctaw County, including two children. Four victims were in Yazoo County and one was in Holmes County.
Meteorologist Mark McCallister says it appears the storm started in Tallulah, La., and moved on to Yazoo City, Miss. At least four other tornado strikes reported north of Vicksburg, Durant, Starkville and Columbus Air Force Base, may have been from the same tornado.
