Eldra Patrick “El” DeBarge was the lead singer of the popular 80s family group DeBarge. They realized major success with the release of “Rhythm of the Night,” which soared to the top of the charts in the U.S. and the U.K. in 1985.

El began a solo career in 1986, with the release of his self-titled album. The first single released from that album, “Who’s Johnny,” peaked at #3 in the U.S. and was featured in the movie Short Circuit.

Plagued in the past by legal problems, with charges ranging from drugs, vandalism and domestic violence, El DeBarge spent time in prison.

His first new album in 16 years will be released in September.
