Christy McMurray, Jamie McMurray, Chip Ganasssi

Jamie McMurray, 34, won the 2010 Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 25, making him one of only three drivers to win both the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 in the same season.

Team owner Chip Ganassi now can claim a rare trifecta: the Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400 and the Indianapolis 500 in the same season. A jubilant Ganassi said: “I need oxygen!”

McMurray sailed to victory after capitalizing on a blunder by his teammate Juan Pablo Montoya, who suffered a second consecutive heartbreak at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Montoya led 86 of the 160 laps, but gave up the lead during a caution with 23 laps remaining than sent everyone to pit road. Crew chief Brian Pattie called for four tires, while the first six drivers back on the track only took two. This put McMurray out front on the restart with 18 laps remaining, and Montoya was in seventh. While fighting to get through traffic, he lost control and crashed into the wall with 15 laps remaining. He finished 32.

At the end of 2009, McMurray left Roush Fenway Racing to drive for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing in the #1 car. Celebrating today’s victory with Jamie was his wife Christy McMurray. The couple took home a purse of $438,877 for the win.

Finishing second was Kevin Harvick, third was Greg Biffle, fourth was Clint Bowyer, and fifth was Tony Stewart.
