The ‘Material Girl’ Madonna has announced her plan to open a orphanage in Malawi. She revealed the news during an interview for American Revolutionaries: The Hitmakers, a documentary featuring music’s most influential artists.

“My short term goal is to build an orphan care center that will service and reach at least 1,000 children, and I’m also actively involved in funding several orphanages that already exist.”

Madonna’s previous plan to open the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, at a cost of $15 million, fell through in March. The school was to have provided an educational opportunity for 400 female students each year.

Madonna adopted her son David and daughter Mercy from orphanages in Malawi. They live in New York City with the singer and her other two children: Lourdes Leon and Rocco Ritchie.
