Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers was transported to a London hospital on Tuesday after an apparent suicide attempt. The Tudors star had reportedly taken an undisclosed number of pills before phoning 999, London’s equivalent of 911, for help.
The Sun is reporting that the 33-year-old was found slumped over on the floor of his home when paramedics arrived. He refused treatment, prompting the rescue team to call for police intervention. Officers transported the reluctant actor to a nearby medical facility.
A representative from Scotland Yard said: “We can confirm that we were called by the London Ambulance Service to an address following reports of a man refusing treatment. Police intervened, and the man was taken by ambulance to a central London hospital. That was the end of our involvement.”
The actor has struggled with alcohol addiction for years, with five stints in rehab, the latest was earlier this month at a five-star facility in South Africa
He has also been removed from several airline flights after displaying belligerent behavior. The latest incident occurred last month.
Rhys Meyers was released from the hospital in the early hours of Wednesday. He emerged looking red-eyed. When asked to make a statement, he replied: “No comment.”
