Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe rose to fame quickly at the tender age of ten. He recently revealed, in a GQ magazine interview, that he has struggled with an addiction.

The 21-year-old actor has been clean and sober since August 2010, after realizing that he was dependent on alcohol.

Things started getting out of control in 2009, while he was shooting Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

He admits: “I became so reliant on alcohol to enjoy stuff.” In retrospect, Radcliffe considers himself lucky that photographers weren’t on hand to capture some of those times.

The actor found it hard to cope with his early success: “There were a few years when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me.”

The partying came to an end after he was finished shooting the final installment Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Content with just being, Radcliffe said: “There’s no shame in enjoying a quiet life. And that’s been the realization of the past few years for me.”

Would Radcliffe like to be that party person? Sure. It just doesn’t seem to work for him. He acknowledges: “I’m actually enjoying that I can have a relationship with my girlfriend (Olive Uniacke) where I’m really pleasant and not f***** up totally all the time.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 hits theaters on July 15. Check out the trailer below:
